Seems like everywhere you look in this world there are either headaches or heartaches…or both. Maybe it even feels like that in your own life, like it does mine sometimes. Some deal with their aches by pushing through with busy schedules and filling their down time with numbing entertainment. Others succumb to crippling depression and anxiety, unable to function without worry or fear. It’s an epidemic.
How are we supposed to thrive in our womanhood the Bible way while heartache and headaches are such a big part of our lives? I’m not going to tell you anything new. I’m just going to remind you what Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30:
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Rest. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? You probably laughed to yourself just now thinking about all the things on your to do list and all the things not on your list yet but nagging at your brain anyway. Rest? Yeah, right.
Did you know that in I Peter 5:7 when the Bible says, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” the word casting actually means “to roll”? So when your burden or worry or pain or fear is just so heavy on your heart that you can’t even bring yourself to toss it to the foot of the cross, Jesus leans down and says, “Don’t worry about picking it up. Just roll it over here and I’ll carry it for you, because I care about you.”
How’s that for relief? I know it brings a wave of refreshing to my spirit. But maybe you’ve carried or dragged your burdens for so long that you don’t know how to roll them over to Christ.
All you have to do is go to Him.
Do whatever it takes to get even just three minutes alone. Literally get on your knees and tell Him what is on your heart. It’s okay if the words don’t come. Jesus hears your heart. Do it again and again, every single time your heart reaches over and tries to grasp that burden again. Let Jesus carry it for you. He cares about you.
Lord, today I choose to focus on WHO you are and how that affects me. I have experienced your goodness in the midst of heartache, your provision in the face of need, and your grace in the pain of growth. Your words are FULL of truth and nothing else—I only need you in the middle of uncertainty and trouble. You shield me from the despair of hell. You lift me above the waves so they don’t overwhelm me. You are my hiding place when life seems like just too much. You are the healer of my heart when burdens and trials have broken it. You are the keeper of the promises that sustain me, and the giver of full and bursting joy when I receive your blessings. You are my purpose and my reason for living. You love me when I am rebellious and selfish. You welcome me home with forgiving arms. You keep my heart steady when all else is shaking. You. Are. My. God. And I will praise your name as long as I have breath, because you lean down to listen to me when I pray. Lord, thank you for hearing me now. Abba, I love you. And it’s in the name of your Son and my Savior, Jesus, that I pray tonight. Amen.
